Meta has inked a 20-year agreement to purchase 1.1 gigawatts of nuclear energy from Constellation's Clinton plant in Illinois, a facility once facing closure due to financial losses. The deal ensures the plant's operational future without relying on state subsidies, while adding 30 megawatts to grid capacity and preserving over 1,100 local jobs. Annual tax revenues are projected to reach $13.5 million, earning praise from Illinois lawmakers for its economic stability.

The MOVE aligns with Meta's broader strategy to build a nuclear-powered AI ecosystem. Since December, the company has been aggressively pursuing clean energy partnerships to meet its 1-4 gigawatt target. With data center energy demand expected to more than double by 2030—surpassing Japan's current electricity consumption—Meta plans to invest $65 billion in AI infrastructure in 2025 alone. This includes automating ad creation across Facebook and Instagram through advanced AI systems.
